Fall Season
Well, we are well into our season now, and it’s been a greatstart. We certainly miss Stacy, but are very lucky to have three newcoaches helping with the program. It should help us continue togrow and improve.
The team appears to have grown significantly this fall, andwe should be settling out all of the registrations over the course of the nextweek. That’s good, since we will soon have our first meet. Following is the schedule of meets through the end of the year:
-
Saturday October 6, morning meet here in Durango
-
Saturday-Sunday, October 20-21, in Aspen. The meetinformation for that meet is attached.
-
Saturday-Sunday, November 3-4, in Montrose
-
Saturday-Sunday, November 17-18, in Farmington
-
Saturday, December 1, morning meet in Durango
-
Saturday-Sunday, December 15-16, in Towaoc.
For those of you that are relatively new it is possible tojust attend one day at these meets, and you don’t need to attend all ofthem. The meets here in Durango, Farmington, and Towaoc are allgreat little meets for newer swimmers.
For the senior group and a few of our more experiencedswimmers we are still looking for another option to challenge ourselves. I’ll let you know when we find it.
As many of you have noticed the staff at the rec centercontinues to give us great support. This year we have been able toget considerably more space for practices, up to 9 lanes frequently. Please do all you can to be respectful of the staff and to behave while at thepool. The fact that our swimmers do this already is part of the reasonwe’ve been able to get more lanes and support. Also please rememberto bring your membership card to the rec center to check in when coming topractice.
For our upcoming meet on October 6 we will need lots of helpin setting up, running the meet, and cleaning up afterward. If everyonecan commit to helping just a little bit we can easily get everythingdone. Warm up for the meet will begin at 8 am, and the meet will begin at9 am. It should be over in approximately 2-2.5 hours, and cleaning upshould only take 10-15 minutes at most. Please plan to help us with themeet. We always need help at the computer/timing table, timing behind thelanes, and other various duties. Check with one of the coaches next week.
Sometime in the relatively near future we will haveinformation on team suits and team warm-ups. We also would like to haveas many of you as possible purchase your own fins, since our team supply islimited. If you have any questions about what to purchase just ask one ofthe coaches.
For our older swimmers, Saturday practices will begin onOctober 13. The senior group will also likely take this Friday off aswell.
If you have any questions for the coaches please let usknow. Remember during practice time we are rather busy, so it is best toplan to ask those questions either before or after practice, or by email.
Have a great week!
John
